Quote by Van Hartmann.
A conversation in Senses today brought this back to my mind and I must give Joe credit. Yesterday during my session with Joe we discussed how animals will seek out 'things that make them feel good' (for lack of a better description.) I could find the exact reference he used (he used Lions) however I did find something similar.
Scientists have found that reindeer's will seek out and eat magic mushrooms regularly.
Scientist Andrew Haynes believes reindeer deliberately seek out the mushrooms to escape the monotony of dreary long winters.
It was a short article, which I will link at the end of this post, but it only proves that animals have a desire to escape. The effect of magic mushrooms is an altered state of mind, you 'fly high' and experience euphoria (noun Psychology. A feeling of happiness, confidence, or well-being sometimes exaggerated in pathological states as mania.)
The reindeer's used the magic mushrooms to escape from the reality of those long winters while we, as human beings, use drugs to escape the dull reality of life. It isn't just drugs that can release this feeling of euphoria. Alcohol, self injury, chocolate etc can all cause this state of excitement.
It is a basic animal instinct within us to seek out something that makes us feel good. For example I am always drawn to razor blades because of the lingering feeling of happiness they always bring me. Even just having them and not using them gives me a sense of security.
Instinct is in our genes even if what we seek to make us feel good is not always a good thing.
Reindeer's.
Investigation into he drinking habits of monkeys. (I figured you would enjoy this. It was also a topic of conversation concerning the same topic and the monkeys are damn cute.)
